As we took our stroll in the park I had a peaceful sense of "fresh water." There was a beautiful fast moving stream, pretty wide with rocks and some rapids. We strolled around a few times, stopping at a few spots to sit and just enjoy. The sound of the water, the fresh breeze blowing, the many ducks around, and the water flowing rapidly down the rocks reminded me of the Holy Spirit. The water is a continuous flow of freshness - continually flowing over the rocks making them smooth and over time shaping them. At some points the water rushes in areas creating a sand bar to step on, a place where you won't fall in, a place of security among the fast water.
The picture of the Holy Spirit like the water is peaceful. Coming in our lives in fresh ways. Moving along with us daily with freshness. How important it is that we don't try to contain the Holy Spirit. In John 3 Jesus compares the Holy Spirit to the wind. As the wind blows wherever it blows so it is with the Holy Spirit's working in our lives.
Acts 7:51 says: "You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!" I believe that when we resist the truth and try to contain what the Holy Spirit can do in our life we are resisting. Yet I absolutely love the beauty with which the Holy Spirit works in my life. The reminder of "fresh water" continually flowing and shaping me over time.
Let the Spirit flow.........
